Reliable EMC measurement results are essential for regulatory compliance, product development and international acceptance. For more than 35 years, Seibersdorf Labor GmbH has supported EMC laboratories worldwide through accredited testing, calibration and site validation services. Building on this experience, we offer proficiency testing (PT) programmes that reflect real EMC measurement practice.

Our proficiency testing activities are designed in alignment with ISO/IEC 17043. They complement our long-standing ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing and calibration services and provide laboratories with an objective and practical assessment of their measurement performance. Fundamental principles like confidentiality of participant results, transparent evaluation procedures and independent assessment are ensured.

This close link between testing, calibration and proficiency testing ensures technically sound programme design and evaluation – from practice for practice.

Proficiency Testing for Test and Calibration Laboratories

Our PT programmes are designed not only for test laboratories but also for laboratories calibrating test equipment. Participants perform measurements using their routine procedures, equipment and staff. Results are evaluated and compared against defined performance criteria.

Repeated participation enables laboratories to monitor long-term performance and to demonstrate technical competence during assessments, customer audits and accreditation activities.

 

Proficiency Testing Activities

PT Programmes for Radiated Emission Measurements

Radiated emission measurements are highly sensitive to instrumentation, antenna factors, positioning and data evaluation. Our proficiency testing programmes for radiated emission address realistic test conditions and frequency ranges relevant for compliance measurements.

Planned and completed PT rounds:

  • Radiated Emission: 30 MHz – 1 GHz
  • Radiated Emission: 1 GHz – 6 GHz
  • Radiated Emission: 1 GHz – 18 GHz


PT Programmes for EMC Test Site Validation

The performance of the EMC test environment is decisive for the reliability of radiated measurements. Proficiency testing in test site validation focuses on standardised environments such as open area test sites and anechoic or semi-anechoic chambers.
In contrast to conventional proficiency testing - where the test item is sent to the participating laboratory - proficiency testing in site validation requires the measurement engineer to travel to the PT test site with their own equipment. This approach reflects real validation practice and directly assesses the performance of the complete measurement setup under on-site conditions.


Planned and completed PT rounds:

  • Site Validation (SVSWR): 1 GHz – 18 GHz
  • Site Validation (RSM): 30 MHz – 1 GHz

 

PT Programmes for Calibration of EMC Measurement Equipment

Calibration is a key element of traceability in EMC testing. Our proficiency testing programmes in this area are designed for test laboratories that perform internal calibrations for their quality assurance and method validation. They focus on RF measurement equipment like antennas, cables, attenuator, coupler, pre-amplifier, etc.
